During the Edo period, to protect people from the harsh winters of the Tohoku region, BORO jacket were made by gathering together worn indigo cotton cloth, patching it together, and repeatedly repairing it with layers of sashiko stitching.
Made of multiple layers of fabric of different thicknesses, the surface fabric is worn and torn, creating a truly impressive sight, with countless sashiko stitches applied throughout.
