On Wednesday, May 1, HUMAN MADE will release a T-shirt in collaboration with illustrator Keiko Sootome. The popular Keiko Sootome series, which began with an approach from HUMAN MADE, has seen items released on the first day of each month. Sootome’s surreal, retro-flavored illustrations capture the world of HUMAN MADE in a unique way. The illustration for May is based on the theme of “Let’s climb together!”

“I love May. It's the season when I want to climb mountains. May. The route to the summit is steep. At times it's a case of survival of the fittest. After all, there’s not much space. But either way, let's go for it. Little by little, we should be able to make it. That's why I love May: it makes me feel hopeful in a straightforward and refreshing way.”

Keiko Sootome
Illustrator & essayist
Born in Yamaguchi prefecture. After graduating from university, she became a self-taught illustrator and released the best-selling book New Unit (Fusosha Publishing) in 2002. Her work includes not only illustration, but television, radio and theater.
