Around 1935, when Yoshida Kaban was founded, women working as “bus girls” were active throughout Japan.
This profession emerged in the early Showa period, roughly 100 years ago. At a time when it was still rare for women to work alongside men, these women became a symbol of women’s entry into the workforce and a symbol of a new era that many people aspired to.
With the PORTER BUS GIRL, Yoshida Kaban—celebrating its 90th anniversary—combines the “bus girl” theme with the functional convenience unique to professional bags. Guided by the “One Stitch, One Soul” spirit upheld since its founding, the brand presents this bag as a “new classic” that resonates as beautiful in today’s era.
The bag’s body features a deep, lustrous black glass leather reminiscent of a grand piano. The interior features smooth, soft-to-the-touch pig suede in a vivid red, paying homage to the color of the collars and scarves on the bus girls’ trademark uniforms.
The snap closure is designed to open easily by simply flipping up the large flap at the bottom, and we’ve carefully crafted it so you can intuitively find the right position when closing it.
We’ve also carried over the drawstring pouch style used by the bus girls of that era.
