"Sanpo" is a square-design tray used to place vessels for washing rice, salt, and water before the deity. "Chosanpo" is so named because of its rectangular shape. The seam at the edge of the stand should be in front of you and set so as not to be disrespectful to the deity. Chosanpo has less depth than Sanpo and is designed to match modern housing conditions. Whether you use it in front of your home Shinto altar, as a point of interest in your interior, or as a Japanese-style tray, we hope you will enjoy using this traditionally designed item that tugs at the heartstrings of the Japanese people!
